WORK PROFILE

1. EU-India Media Initiative on HIV/AIDS (2006):

The second year of the EU-India Media Initiative on HIV/AIDS has seen six workshops in total. The year began with two workshops in Hyderabad, (India) which trained 12 print journalist as well as 8 radio journalists. Trainers from Thomson Foundations (UK) and University of Tampere (Finland), as well as resource persons from INP+ attended the workshops.

The New Delhi (India) workshops followed next, with 12 print and 8 radio journalists as participants. As in the case of Hyderabad, visits and interactions with HIV positive persons were organized. Resource persons from INP+ and trainers from Thomson Foundations (UK) and University of Tampere (Finland) participated in the workshops.

The last two workshops of the year - the television workshops, were organized in Shimla in August-September,2006, to train 8 television journalists each. The training sessions included field visits, interactions with State AIDS Control Society, Himachal Pradesh, as well as screening- interaction sessions.

2. EU-India Media Initiative on HIV/AIDS (2005):

Sponsored by the European Union, this two year media project is designed to train Indian national journalists covering television, radio and print media. Apart from Media Management Group for Literacy and Development, the other partners for this project are Thomson Foundation (Lead Partner from UK); University of Tampere (Finland); INP + (India); and Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (UK). In the year 2005, six back to back workshops were organized in Pondicherry (TV); Gangtok (Radio) and Goa (Print), respectively to train 40 national journalists. More workshops and other activities will be undertaken in 2006.


3. EU India Documentary Initiative (2004):

Under the European Union’s EU - India Economic Cross Cultural Initiative, working journalists from India and countries of the European Union were trained in radio and television formats. The initiative covered topics of social conflicts in the form of radio and television documentaries. In all 32 working journalists from different parts of the world were trained and the programme of action was organized in many countries. Two workshops for TV journalists (15 days each) and two workshops for radio journalists (7 days each) were organized in the Indian Institute of Mass Communication premises. In all 32 working journalists were trained and exposed to working environment in India and Europe.

EU India Documentary Initiative

Media Management Group for Literacy and Development was the organizing partner for the project. The other partners for the project are: Thomson Foundation, UK; Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, UK; University of Tampere, Finland; and Indian Institute of Mass Communication, India. The project is to end by April 2005.

4. Public Utility of Secondary Schools (December 2004):

This field research project was commissioned by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. This was a major project for two years (2002 - 2004) covering one hundred top secondary schools in India. The study examined these schools against 14 parameters of public utility and passed on its recommendations to Government of India.

The project has been able to initiate healthy debate over policy issues concerning secondary schools in the media and relevant circles throughout the country. The project involved data collection, data interpretation, analysis and recommendations in the form of a report.

5. Sub-Regional Workshop on Overcoming the Policy and Resource Gaps for EFA South Asia National Action Plans: A review in the light of DAKAR framework, UNESCO, India (March 2004):

Sponsored by UNESCO, India and executed in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research, the workshop was organized in New Delhi. An intensive sharing of national experiences took place in the workshop with regards to policy, strategies and resource arrangement for EFA in South Asia: India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Maldives. The sub-regional workshop had participants from these seven countries.


6. Training (NGO) Workshop (Nagaland State, India) (6-7 April, 2004):

Commissioned by the Department of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. 35 Non Governmental Organizations of the State were trained in project development strategies and proposal writing skills.

7. Training (NGO) Workshop (Sikkim State, India) (March 2003):

Commissioned by the Department of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, 50 Non Governmental organizations of the State were trained in project development strategies and proposal writing skills.
